Celebrating Earth Day 2026
Earth Day is April 22, but we celebrate it every day at Republic Services. Our industry-leading commitments to strengthen recycling, reduce emissions and build sustainable neighborhoods are designed to support our customers, the communities where we live and work, and the planet.
Putting Sustainability in Action
Through our Polymer Center network, we’re helping ensure plastic water and soda bottles get recycled back into new bottles. When you recycle, you’re helping us make a difference, one bottle at a time.
We operate the largest fleet of electric recycling and waste collection trucks in North America, and have plans to add 150+ more this year. EV collection trucks bring cleaner, quieter operations to the communities we serve.
Did you know your old banana peel could one day power a city bus — or even one of our collection trucks? Our 70+ landfill gas-to-energy projects generate renewable energy and low-carbon fuels, helping customers reduce their impact.
This year, Republic Services is partnering with 14 community organizations to support sustainable neighborhood revitalization. These projects are expected to positively impact nearly 2 million people, helping build thriving communities.

Learn about what can and can't be recycled with our recycling infographic.
There are seven categories of plastics. Just three get recycled curbside. Knowing your plastics is one of the ways you can help the planet and efficiently recycle.
