Guidelines for Recycling Glass
Understanding how to recycle glass bottles and containers is important.
Do:
- Keep lids on bottles or toss them in the trash; they’re too small to recycle by themselves.
- Rinse and dry all food containers.
- Brown, green and clear glass are acceptable.
Don’t:
- No glass that is broken into small pieces.
- No Pyrex or heat-resistant glass.

- The container and fiberglass industries purchase 3.35 million tons of recycled glass every year.
- Every metric ton of recycled glass saves 694 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere compared to making new glass.
