Keeping the Lights On with a Closed Landfill
At a closed Republic Services landfill in Belleville, Ill., a 13-megawatt solar field generates enough electricity to power more than 2,000 nearby homes. One of the nation's largest landfill solar projects, it's delivering both environmental and economic sustainability.
Helping Minneapolis Recycle More
The city of Minneapolis set an ambitious goal to recycle 50% of the city's waste by 2020 and 80% by 2030. Republic Services answered by investing in an $8 million renovation of our downtown recycling facility, increasing capacity by 35%.
Preserving Biodiversity
At Republic Services' Coffin Butte Landfill in Oregon, over 556 acres are dedicated to preservation and research of the native Oregon White Oak, which provides a habitat for birds and reptiles, and a food source for mammals
Fueling a Bus Fleet
In San Antonio, Texas, renewable natural gas produced from Republic Services' Tessman Road Landfill is being utilized to fuel about 75% of the city's bus fleet, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping the city achieve its climate action goals
